Brief Information on Postdoctoral Fellowship Jobs Application Process

UK universities offer several postdoc fellowships every week across disciplines. This page provides information about postdoctoral fellowships jobs in various UK universities. This is one of the easiest route to realize your dream to work and settle in the UK. On this page all postdoctoral fellowship jobs are listed on weekly.

Browse through the list given below. Understand area of research. Sometimes area of research is mentioned in job title. However, sometimes area of research is not mentioned in job title.
For every postdoctoral fellowship direct UK university link is given. If research area is not mentioned in the title, visit the university link and understand research area.
If particular research area is of your interest then read through job notification and job description.
Click on 'Apply to this job'. You may start application with or without registration. Register your self at University application page, if required.
Login with your credentials.
Select the postdoctoral fellowship job on university job portal.
Complete job application.
Upload the required documents.
Submit application.

After submission of application you may receive confirmation email from the university. You will able to apply yourself at university link. Most universities have online form. However, few universities require form to download, fill it and email to the recruitment team.

Every UK university has different application process for Postdoctoral fellowship job. However, commonly required information or documents are as below:

Typically, every postdoctoral fellowship comes with Job Description (JD) which will list Essential Criteria and Desirable Criteria. You will have to align your qualification, research, experience, skill and interests with JD. If you are able to provide enough evidences of how you are suitable for the job, you will be shortlisted and called for interview. During the application process if you have any questions, you can contact the university contact email will be given in JD. Typically this email belongs to principle investigator.

If you are applying to several fellowships but you are not getting any response or you are not getting shortlisted. There can be several reasons such as:

Application is weak.

What do you mean by weak application. Few examples -
Using same application used in previous postdoc application
Cover letter, personal statement, application questions are not customized keeping in mind essential criteria and deseribale criteria given in advertisement

You do not fulfill all essential criteria
You do not fulfill any desirable criteria
You do not have either research experience or professional experience in the skills required for postdoc position
Your research or skill is not aligned with requirements of fellowship
Your publications might be of poor quality
You are international candidate. This is also factor which you should consider. As per UK visa rules, UK university should prefer UK national over European or international candidate even if the UK national candidate is not superior to the international candidates.
Sometimes job advertisement will be released to hire internal research or phd candidates.

In the year 2021, I was applying for various UK university jobs including postdoctoral fellowships. Fortunately, I was successful in getting postdoctoral fellowship. My application was shortlisted for interview based on my above submitted documents. For interview few guidelines will be emailed by HR team. Sometimes it explicitly inform about preparing presentation and sometimes it doesn't. Typically, I used to make 10 min presentation and ask if I can go through. In this case, I don't know if it was asked but I remember delivering presentation as part of my interview process. Finally, I was selected and offer letter was sent. Unfortunately, I had to decline as I had other options to consider.
