Numerical Modeling of Orthogonal Micro-Cutting

This chapter presents the approach used for numerical modeling and simulation of orthogonal micro-cutting process using FEA and SPH formulations within LS-DYNA software. To analyze the microcrack formation and gross fracture phenomenon, the present work uses pure Lagrangian formulation, whereas to model the workpiece microstructure, SPH formulation is used as described below.
