CBSE - Class 2 - GIIS - English - Growing up with Moyo

"Happy Birthday Harit!”

Harit opened his eyes. Again he heard someone say, “Happy Birthday!” Harit jumped out of bed. Today was his birthday and he had turned four!

As he hugged his parents, his eyes fell on a big parcel wrapped in shiny blue and red paper. He jumped back on to the bed and opened it.

The moment Harit saw what it was, he began shouting and clapping his hands in joy. He hugged his parents again and then hugged his new gift—Moyo!

Moyo was a large robot nearly as tall as Harit. It could walk, talk and turn around. Excitedly Harit asked the robot, “How are you Moyo?" The robot answered, “I am great. How are you?” Then Harit questioned, “Who is your best friend Moyo?" The robot laughed and replied, “Hee- Hee! It is you!" Harit was thrilled! He had found a new friend.

Every few minutes Harit would say, “Walk Moyo" and the robot would say, “Moyo is walking." He would put one foot forward, rest the foot down, lift the other foot and place it ahead. This would go on and on till Harit would say, “Stop! Now turn Moyo!" and the robot would say, “T-T-Turning— T - T- Turning!" When Moyo would turn around, Harit would be super excited.

Harit loved his new toy and spent a lot of time playing with it. Slowly he began getting bored of it and Moyo started gathering dust. His parents decided to put the robot away in an old toy trunk. Years passed. Suddenly one day Harit remembered Moyo. He opened his toy trunk and began looking for his robot, but it was nowhere to be seen. He asked his mother, “Mom, do you know where my Moyo is?" “It is in that toy trunk Harit," said his mom. She took him back to the trunk and pulled out the robot.

Harit was shocked to see the robot. "What? Is this Moyo?" he asked. He ran back to his room holding the robot to check with the picture hanging on the wall. Yes indeed, it was Moyo. “I remember Moyo as a large robot but this is...," he mumbled all confused.

His mother lovingly patted his back and said, “Well it has been a long time Harit. While Moyo has remained the same, it's you who has grown taller and bigger!"
