Preparation Guidelines:
I have prepared my daughter for various levels using following methodology.
  • Initially, let your kid get familiar with phonics concept. This will help to learn spellings faster. But word of caution - when your kid learns phonics he/she will try to generate spelling using phonics. But there are many words which will not follow phonics. You should explain such words so that your kids remember it.
  • Ask your kid to reproduce spellings of each and every words which he/she comes across in all the subjects. Keep revising these words through phonics techniques wherever applicable. Sample word list is provided in this blog at the end. You can use this as a reference material.
  • Occasionally, ask your kid to write the spellings. According to me writing not only improves handwriting but also increases concentration.
  • Prepare your kid for specific level of spell bee using preparation/study material provided by specific organizer. You can also use the material provided in this blog.
  • Finally, let your kid practice through sample test papers. Please note that in this blog sample papers are provided only for Level-2 as this level covers all the aspect.
Even though your kid is not preparing for any spell bee competition, this blog will help your kid to build very strong vocabulary. As per one of the research students should know around 6000 words at the end of Standard 2 as shown in the table below:
